Farms for Freshness

Chesapeake Gardens has a network of farmers who supply the ingredients for our soups and salads. We choose our farmers carefully and work with them to ensure the highest quality produce and meat. Here’s how:

We start with the soil. Alan Magan, the founder of Chesapeake Gardens, is a certified organic grower. Years ago, Alan developed the organic bio-fertilizer mix that our organic farmers now use to grow ingredients for Chesapeake’s soups and salads. Our bio-fertilizer is special because it builds up the biology of soil and increases the flavor and nutritional value of the crops.

All Chesapeake-affiliated farmers follow the highest standards of ecological farming. Chesapeake’s own farm is certified organic by the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

All Chesapeake farmers are committed to soil health through biological diversity. The Chesapeake Gardens growing system uses compost, cover crops and our special bio-fertilizer to encourage the presence of good microbes in the soil.
